Steeped in history and nestling on the banks of the River Tweed, Burts Hotel in Melrose is the perfect base to explore the beautiful and historic Scottish Borders.

From adrenaline-pumping sports including the word-class 7stanes mountain biking centres to more leisurely pursuits including fishing on the renowned River Tweed, golfing on one or more of the regions 21 golf courses or walking some of the 1,500 miles of walking routes, the Scottish Borders has something to suit every member of the family.

For children there is the thrill of the zip wire, Tarzan swings, rope ladders and mid air obstacles at Go Ape at Glentress or how about a trip to Bowhill House where kids can go wild in the wonderful adventure playground.

As well as golfing, walking, fishing and cycling, the region can offer more unusual activities such as horse riding, clay pigeon shooting and many watersports including surfing, diving, canoeing, sailing and yachting.

You’re spoilt for choice in the Scottish Borders! Historic houses and castles, ruined abbeys, monuments, museums, local festivals, gardens and art galleries.

Abbotsford House, the ancestral home of Sir Walter Scott is a 5 minute drive from Burts, while Melrose Abbey, one of 4 impressive abbey ruins to be found in the Borders, is just a short 5 minute walk.

The Borders has a wealth of castles and historic homes including Floors Castle, the largest inhabited castle in Scotland, home to the Duke of Roxburghe situated in the nearby town of Kelso.

EVENTS

There’s always something happening in the Scottish Borders! Melrose is host to the world-famous Melrose 7’s in April/May each year, always a sell out occasion! Whilst in June, Melrose welcomes the very popular Borders Book Festival which brings a host of famous faces to the town

Return to the Ridings is a celebration of the riding of the boundaries that has taken place for centuries, these festivals take place in various towns from June to September and are steeped in history and tradition.

Other events include a vintage car rally at Thirlestane Castle, horse racing at Kelso Race Course as well as a side variety of folk and music festivals, fairs, art festivals and much more…
