With some of the finest independent shops in the country Melrose really does make for a great place to enjoy some wonderful shopping.
As we are proud to boast that Melrose not only does have a butcher, baker and a candlestick maker we have just about everything else too. We also have a deli, fishmonger, fruitmonger and Abbey Fine Wines with their eclectic wines, whisky and gins too. Along with a superb selection of eating out establishments, Melrose is a foodie’s paradise!
Since we last wrote about our town there have been some changes and we are delighted to see some new independent businesses opening which offer something new for both locals and visitors alike.
One of the most recent additions to Melrose is the Turkish Barber, Saffett and his team offer a truly indulgent ‘shave and cut’ experience and is a welcome addition to Melrose. Bliss Beautician and EB Hairdressing are welcome editions to Melrose too.
Whimsical Bride, a relatively new addition to Melrose, with an exclusive bridalwear collection, featuring ethereal, bohemian, modern and minimal bridal styles has seen many new visitors to Melrose, the shop is an attraction in itself.
Melrose Gallery is located at the top of the Square where this art gallery displays an excellent range of original art, prints, sculpture, wood, ceramics and bronzes and Emma Herman Gallery at 1 The Wynd with a wonderful selection of original art, both a wonderful places to browse and gift shop.
Artizan the jewellers which offers a unique range of jewellery and gifts have recently introduced their own handcrafted jewellery inspired by the Borders landmarks and scenery. And of course there is also The Crafters offering unique giftware from local artists, designers and crafters based in the Scottish Borders.
Masons of Melrose have struck a deal with Post Office chiefs and will provide a counter within their store from late October, so you can browse through the wonderful array of books, buy a gift and send it to friends and family all in the one place.
Seasonal clothing ranges are certainly the theme at the classic women’s wear shop Sarah Thomson’s. Seasonality is also in abundance at Love Scottish Candles with autumn fragrances and is proving a great wee shop to buy a gift to take home. And whilst it is not the traditional gardening season, at Hendersons Home & Gardens you can find unique gifts for any time of year.
Of course there are more gift shopping opportunities Bank House Living, not only with their range of gifts, soft furnishings and furniture, as well as a full interior design service. And of course there is Michael Vee Interior Design, offering specialist interiors, design and statement pieces.
