Winning winter events
Posted on 05 November 2019
With the clocks changing and the arrival of crisp frosty mornings, it’s definitely the time of year to look out the old hat and gloves!
This is also a great time of year to discover the changing calendar of Winter events in the Borders too. We’ve picked out some fantastic seasonal highlights to enjoy in the coming weeks.
From an atmospheric evening of storytelling in Sir Walter Scott’s Library to an inspiring talk from legendary wildlife cameraman Doug Allan. Kelso Races are holding an entertaining Festive Family Race Day and you can meet the makers at the annual Crafters Art and Design Fair, perfect for Christmas shopping.
These are just some of the different events you can enjoy in the Borders this winter.
Doug Allan FRSGS: Whale Meet Again… (Borders)
Part of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society Inspiring People talks programme. Images and stories of filming whales around the world.
According to Sir David Attenborough, “wildlife cameramen don’t come much more special than Doug Allan.”
Doug has filmed whales in the Antarctic, off coral reefs, among the giant kelp in California, and under the Arctic pack ice. Finding them depends on cooperation with scientists, skilled boat handlers, patience, and a healthy dose of luck! Join Doug as he shares his most memorable moments with the biggest animals on the planet.
